My friend said that one didn't even have a dipstick to check the transmission fluid, thusly it is apparently a 'disposable' vehicle. Does anyone own one, and is this true. What is everyone's opinions on them? Thanks!

lol.

Every car made by any manufacturer since about 2005 is disposable. They're made to crush on impact to be totalled, and to be anti-service friendly with new engine/total vehicle management systems.

Was this particular cobalt a manual? lol

Most cars nowadays don't have dipsticks for transmission fluid. It's a totally sealed system and shouldn't need to have the fluid checked under normal situations for at least 100,000 miles.

A Cobalt is no more disposable than a Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, etc.

It may not be the best car in its class, but it's a good car that has good reliability, good fuel economy, and good performance. The main reason the Cobalt gets a bad rap is because the interior quality isn't up there with its competitors, but it's a fairly old model (introduced 2004) and it has never really been updated.

My dad used have the same feelings about the Hyundai Elantra. We originally bought one in 2002 and he expected it to be dead by 2004 and many people had or continue to have the same idea about Hyunda. We still have the car and it has over 200,000 miles on it and it's still good. Just goes to show common perception of a car isn't always right.
