Several months ago the fan settings 1 and 2 stopped working. Air will only blow if it is on 3, 4 or 5.
Also, just a day or so ago, the entire left side of the knob including Off, 1 and 2 do not light up like 3, 4 & 5.
What is the problem and how do I fix it? ...Take it to the repair shop?
Will it be expensive or should I just live with it?

The car is a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS with 40,000 miles on it.
Also, the cigarette lighter hasn't worked in years.
