I have a '92 Chevy Silverado Z71 4x4 pu with a 5.0 ltr mtr auto. It starts, idles

but won't run when given gas? Timing has to be way advanced for it to just idle. Sprays gas into carb unless timing off then gas won't spray. Any ideas??

If it will run stronger while you spray carb-cleaner in the throttle, (be careful for backfires) Check fuel pressure and take a fuel sample to check for water. This truck probably needs at least 15-20 PSI and should hold pressure when you shut it off. If it does not, take the bed off, pull the pump assembly out of the tank and inspect/replace the short hose out of the pump (these blow out) or get a new pump. A new pump not a bad idea anyway at this age. Change the filter with the pump.

Slipped a timing chain a notch. Take a compression check. See if it takes too long to build compression.
Better yet, use your finger for a compression tester see if it sucks for a 1/4 second before it builds compression.
Expect to replace chain and 2 sprockets.
