...brake is off. Does anybody knows? what this means? I am going to take it to the Mechanic but I wondered if this ever happened to anyone and what it meant and how much did it cost to fix?

Either a sensor or a bad wire to the sensor and possible a bad brake line. Its going to cast a few hundred dollars. Its about 250 for the replacement of the sensor(give or take, all vehicles are different) and to repair a brake line is about a hundred dollars. All depends all which shop you take it to, dealerships are more expensive and some shops charge different rates. Get an estimate at different places, talk is cheap.

A sensor problem and that depends on if he a mechanic that doesn't charge too much or a dealer that will charge a lot.

Chances are you are leaking brake fluid. Check out the reservoir. It only needs to be down a little for the lights to come on. Topping it up will only stop the light from coming on. A mechanic will have to check out the braking system to see where it's leaking. Not a lot of money.
Happy motoring.
