through a towing company? I found a 1992 Chevy ext. crew cab for a reasonable price, it has 300,000 miles on it i heard the engine and it seems to run well i need a dependable truck for work, this will be my first car i own. This company tow's for the highway patrol so i don't know to much about the history so i need advice on what to look for, also what should i expect from a truck with so many miles on it , the guys there say a goo tune up is needed, but what else can i expect?

RUN!! 300,000 miles is A LOT for a truck you don't know how it was treated before it was towed away. Most people who allow that to happen to their vehicles stop keeping up with regular maintenance and you could be buying yourself a money pit that wont get you to the end of the block. You didn't mention how much they want for it. Are they going to throw in the tune up?

I'd walk away and keep looking. Buy from a private owner. Not that that will guarantee a better truck.

Whichever way you go I would demand that they allow you to take it to a mechanic of your choice that will inspect the truck for you and give you his disinterested honest opinion and then you can move forward with a better idea of what your getting yourself into.

Good luck!
