My 2003 Suburban with 155k miles has a constant humming noise coming from the drivers side, front wheel. CV axle? Bearing? rotor? any ideas how to diagnose this?

if you jack the vehicle up and grab the tire at 6 and 12 and feel excessive play the wheel bearing is suspect.
if you hear the noise more prominently when turning sharply at low speeds I would suspect a CV, look for a torn boot also.

Thank you for your advice. I don't really feel any play in the tire but the noise is constant at all speeds and not clicking so I'm thinking it may be the bearing anyway. I'll take off the caliper and spin the rotor and see if it feels like it's grinding or not spinning as freely as it should.

I don't think you can freely spin the hub since it is connected to an axle. You'll have to remove the nut and pull the hub off of the splined axle. A new bearing has to be pressed in the hub. Figure about $50 labor if you carry the hub to a shop. Not sure what the bearing will cost.
Rotate your tires first and see if the noise moves with the tire.
