I own a 1988 suburban 3/4 I would like
Some feed back on how to install my headers?

Remove the existing exhaust system, then remove the exhaust manifolds. Install your headers. Don't forget the gaskets!

I have a bracket on each side one is for holding alternator I believe and the other holds the think .and the second holds secondary by pass valve. Do I need to buy longer studs? And do I need to remove entire pulley out??

Didnt the headers coming with an instruction sheet? They usually comment on what additional parts are needed to install the headers. If you go to www.hedman.com and select your vehicle they list the installation notes concerning any changes required.

Since you bought them used, are you positive you got the right ones for your vehicle? Some folks will tell you anything just to make a sale.

Yes i am positive they fit my truck did research on them thrue LMC trucks.

Thank you to everyone on the useful info. I will post my progress

I'm more of a hands on, or have to see it guy. My cognitive thinking got all screwed up after 2 brain surgeries six months apart back in 2004.

Are they shorty headers that bolt to the Y-pipe or full length that will need a new exhaust system? I have the shorties by Edelbrock.

Hi Guys,

I saw where VanGo used the Edelbrock Shorties. Apparently, those are good quality, but not available any more? Does anyone know where Edelbrock Shorties can be purchased for a 94/95 Suburban w/350 (5.7) Engine? Thanks.

Bob

Hi Guys,

I didn't mean to sound too much like a dummy. Yes, I'm very familiar with Summit, Jegs, etc. But, I had seen very good reports on the Edelbrock Shorties, which apparently aren't around anymore.

I apologize. This is new to me. I mess with old school vehicles and everyone has long tube headers. This deal about shorties that bolt right into the existing exhaust with oxygen sensors, etc., is something I don't want to do wrong.

To give a vehicle a boost, installing headers was always a "no brainer". The mechanic in town warns me that I may not have enough "back pressure" if I use them, though. I realize that the issue of back pressure is a debatable one. But with computers, etc. on these more modern vehicles, I was wondering what you GM/350 experts thought about all that. Any negatives to installing a quality set of shorties?

There's a chance I'll just keep it stock. But it's definitely gonna need at least a "Cat Back" new exhaust system (old one fell off). I was considering headers as a way to pep up the vehicle a bit, and do the whole exhaust system. I've seen exhaust systems that feature better flowing Cats, etc.

Thanks,
Bob

I put the headers on for the same basic reasons. There are other areas to improve perhaps first, but this was a deal I couldn't pass up.
Check out CFM tech for some basic TBI enhancements. There are some weak areas that can be addressed without much difficulty.

Why not go with long tube and weld a bong into the collector for the O2 sensor?

I'd also go with the long tubes if you need a whole new system anyway. Mine was fairly new, so bolting to the y-pipe was more cost effective. Some sets may already have the O2 bong. Also consider spending a little more for a good coating, not just high temp paint. Otherwise they will look like crap.
