I have a 1999 chevy silverado 4x4 and the driver side oil seal in the axle is leaking . I tock the cv shaft out but how do i take the peice that the cv shaft bolts to that goes into the pig come out ? Do i have to pull the holl thing apart to take a shime out or does it just pop out .

ok here ya go......inside the diff on the end of that shaft is an internal snap ring, gm says to pull the diff out, place with that shaft pointing down and lightly tap on shaft to center ring and then apply quick prying type jolt to shaft using equal pressure on both sides of flange......done it a couple of times and it worked.....done it more than once and it didnt.....if it dont, you have to split the case and try to drive the shaft out.....I have ruined the shaft more than once, DO NOT try to remove shaft by prying on flange with it in truck.....the ring will drop down in grove and it will flatten the ring or cause a bur on the ring and you will never get it out......once, I had to split the case, cut the flange off the shaft and remove the shaft from the back side.....hope this helps....
