How safe is a 1986 corvette?

I'm a teenager looking for a first car. My parents kinda don't want to buy me one of those though cause they might not be safe.
So how are they when it comes to wrecks, or rain and everything?
Anything to make them safer (like different tires and things? yeah i don't know too much technical stuff about cars lol)

A corvette would not be a good first car, regardless of the car's age. You need to think something more realistic.

Additionally, a 1986 corvette sounds like a money pit. Will you have the money to maintain it?
