OK, first off I read the car manual, I already tried a bunch of stuff people posted on sites I found via Google, Yahoo and Bing...

So I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu and my key fob use to work, it slowly died (meaning the range decreased over time) so I replaced the battery (it's the right one and the contacts are clean) and now it no longer works.

I tried holding both the lock and unlock buttons for various amounts of time... inside and outside of the car, in and out of acc mode.

I tried holding the trunk button with the trunk open also tried the same with the door and door unlock button.

I tried the hold unlock on drivers side while turning key on/off a few times and doing a few other buttons.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Don't bother answering if you are just going to say "go to the dealership" unless you have something to back it up with such as a link to a reputable source.

Crazy question and I only ask because this did happen to me once. The replacement battery, have you put a volt meter on it to make sure it is good? Some of these batteries have sat on a shelf long enough, that they have lost their charge. If you have great, like I said, I purchased a battery that was dead. It's a place to start, otherwise it would be a good bet that the FOB it's self is bad and needs to be replaced.
