Horsepower in a 1974 Chevy Nova?

If it's originally a Ca car, it has 160 hp SAE. If it's a 49 state car, or a Ca car with power disk/drum brakes, it has 185 hp SAE. That's from the sales preview literature we got from Chevy in Aug '73.

Im not sure what you might be asking but I have a few comments on a 350 smallblock. Overall a great motor. Dependable, long lasting, versatile, and a laundry list of things you can do to make power. If what you are asking is if a 350 is a good motor for a 74 nova I would say yes. I have a 350 in a 72 nova with 13.5-1 compression that runs 10.5 quartermiles with mild chassis work (subframe, shocks, and traction bars). The first things you can do to any motor to liven it up is cam work, headers, head, intake and exhaust. For cams in a 350 you can have have a pretty decent amount of lift if you know how to run the car. Just call the company you plan on purchasing from and tell them your application, they will guide you in the right direction. The next thing you can do to make any car faster is work on the traction. Wider street tires would be the first step. And air shocks would probably be the next. These are all budget mods and i hope iv'e guided you in the right direction. Small blocks are where it's at.
