Help with a 1998 Chevy Malibu gas gauge.?

how do i pop off the plastic glass thing covering the speedometer and like the gas gauge ? I got to the glass plastic thing and then couldn't figure out how to remove it. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows.

-I'm trying to open it because the gas gauge ticker thingy fell below the little thing that holds it up. haha im making no sense. but yeah.

Sure I understand you have to remove the whole dash assembly around the Gage setup one you have the gage cluster out you will see the screws on the back side on the cluster set remove them and pull the glass off, replace the Gage by removing the nuts holding the Gage on from the rear side, and if there is not nuts holding it in place then remove the Gage by pulling it gently back and forth out of assembly. Find a replacement at the dealer or go to jcwhintney online to buy one, the reinstall as you removed it.you will have to pull the kick Panel on some to get to the lower screws of the Gage assembly and there will be two screws you will see at the very top by feeling for the holes with your fingers use a stubby philips screwdriver to remove them, pull the assembly part way out ans squeeze the speedo cable connector to get it loos then remove the Gage assembly, at this time squirt some wd 40 into the speedo cable to lube it so you don't have to pull it apart again.
