Hi everybody. I'm usually on the suburban side of this forum but now I need some advise for my pickup.

Its a 1999 Silverado. 4.8 engine. 2wd ext cab. No modifications, all stock.

Today I noticed some black stuff on the drivers side front wheel. It's grease. Looked on the inside and the entire wheel hub in the back is covered in grease. (mind you I'm at work so didn't get much time to look) ]
I grabbed at the upper ball joint and it had grease all over it, same with the lower one.

Can ball joints carry that much grease? I do keep them greased up. Or maybe the wheel bearings?
Anyways, tomorrow before work I'll get it jacked up and start checking.
Just wanted some input.
Thanks in advance

Are you overgreasing the ball joints? did the rubber boot on the ball joints crack?

Had the truck jacked up. No play in the ball joints or bearings. Tie rods feel good as well.

I did notice that where the rubber boots meet the top they are oozing grease from there. Small cracks? Guess I over greased them....

What I thought was grease all inside the rim was mostly brake dust :D There was some grease but not as bad as it looked yesterday.

Its my understanding that the wheel bearings on this pickup are a sealed unit with the hub. Does this type of set up ever start spitting out grease when they go bad or do they just go out.

The bearings do not spit out grease.

Thank you zora.
Just going to have to keep an eye on things for a while.

depending on what type of grease gun you use and the amount of grease and the age of the boots, you can pop them causing the grease to spill out.
