I am looking at a 68' Nova in a couple days and it seems like it's at a decent price. Info:

Possibly trading my 96 Cobra for it (worth around $11k)
68' Nova
355 motor with camel hump 202 heads (newly rebuilt and bored .030 over)
TH350 tranny (newly rebuilt with hurst manual shifter and b&m stall converter)
Built rear end (forged axles/shortened 1.5" each side/3.23 gears)
Drivetrain is mostly new..Pretty new paint job. No rust.
New driveshaft
New aluminum radiator
All interior is done besides rear bench

The problems/things needed:

Left signal doesn't work (wiring of some sort)
No wiper motor
Back seats need reupholstering
Alignment

So is $11k a good buy for this vehicle? Any input is helpful, thanks in advance! Craigslist ad below:

Unless it's a numbers matching car, I'd say no. BUT, I'm not all that familiar with what's collectible or desirable. I buy cars to drive, not pamper and hope they increase in value over time. It's your money, but I'd rather have the Cobra.

I hear ya, I love my cobra, has a lot of money into it. I may ask money on top we will see what happens!

Thanks for the website. Although I'm quite positive he would be pretty upset if I offered him that much after all the money he put into it. But don't get me wrong I know most of the money you put into a car (unless a true ss/yenko) you aren't going to get back. It's obviously not a matching numbers car. Different motor/trans/rear end, but all newly rebuilt as well as all new interior in the vehicle. Surely that would have to put some value into rather than just $5k? Not just this car but other non matching number cars that are "classics". Just wondering

sounds like you are looking at a #3 at best, look carefully at the frame and the body panels around rear wheel wells

yes you would add some value but as you already stated the seller should have known he is not going to get back the money he dumped into it especially if the car is not totally pristine, car show 1st place worthy overall not just a nice engine.

Yes, you're right. Well what do you think a fair price would be? I'm just not familiar with classic/older vehicles so it's been a learning experience this past week doing research; it's a whole nother world.

Bottom line is what are you willing to pay for it and how badly do you want it? I still say keep your Cobra and walk away.

Cannt give you a fair price without seeing at least pictures of the car, including but not limited to, engine compartment, trunk including upper part between back window and weatherstrip, front end including control arm bushings, ball joints, dont like the comment "it needs an alignment", rear wheel well arches, complete frame on lift, etc. If you dont feel confident enough to evaluate the condition of the car find a local Chey club and see if someone is willing to go along with you that has a backgroud in checking old cars.
