Gas gauge error

I have a 2001 Silverado 1500 and from time to time my gas gauge goes to E and the Low Fuel warning indicator comes on. When I accelerate the truck, the gauge returns to normal and the warning indicator disappears.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any troubleshooting tips!
