fans will not work all of the time

Hi,
I have a similar problem as a lot of other people where the blower motor will not work. It works sometimes especially when it is warm out. I found that if I give the dashboard a good wack near the left side of the glove compartment it will work. I removed the heater controls and made sure that all of the wiring harnesses were seated properly. Still same thing. Any ideas as to where the problem is and how to get at it?

Did you check for power going to the motor?
What year car?
