Hello,

I have a 2018 Chevy Traverse with 63k miles and was told by a local dealer that my catalytic converter needs repair and is covered under the emissions warranty. However, they also stated that the flex pipe (which they said had a hole in it), is not covered under the same warranty and will cost me $600 to replace to flex pipe. The dealer's rationale is that they said the pipe cracked and caused the catalytic converter to then break, although I have no idea how they would know this timing to invalidate the warranty repair. They did acknowledge that other 2018 Traverse vehicles have “special coverage” which would cover the flex pipe as well, but I’m told my particular vehicle does not have this coverage. So I unfortunately was forced to pay to repair the flex pipe along with associates gaskets and nuts.

GM’s Emission warranty states that the catalytic converter is covered, and goes on to state that “Miscellaneous Items Used with
Above Components” are also covered. This section specifically lists “pipes”, "gaskets" etc as miscellaneous items used with the warranteed component (catalytic converter). I am also aware of the 2018-2019 NTSB bulletin about the flex pipe/cat converter issues.

I’ve started a case with GM and so far they haven’t been able to give me clarification on their OWN warranty. Instead they defer me to the “expert” being the dealer!

Can anyone give me any guidance on how I can get the dealer/GM to include the flex pipe in the warranty? This is so frustrating! Thank you in advance!

How do I repair mybflex pipe leak myself? It is rusted off where it starts and ends. Sorry for the lack of technical terms. But I am determined to fix this myself at least temporarily. Hopefully with your help🙏

Without seeing it hard to tell. They make high temperature muffler/exhaust tape available at most auto parts stores.
