Hello everyone,

I currently own a Honda Odyssey. I've been driving minivans since 2003. I am relocating to the NJ/PA area this summer and was figuring I should have something with 4wd. I've always loved the comfort and room in the vans, and I've heard good things about the Suburbans. I have an 18 yo daughter who is special needs and will be with us for a while. I also have a 13 yo boy who plays hockey. Add 2 dogs to the list and that's what I could be hauling around. I have a college student also who may be with us occasionally. We've thought about pulling a travel trailer someday also.

My biggest concern in moving up to the Suburban is gas. We typically put 25k-30k miles on our van every year and worried about how I will handle the pain at the pump. All of our family is out of state (6-8 hours), so we typically will visit 4-6 times a year combined. Hockey also helps put the miles on.

So I would like to hear opinions about how you feel with gas costs. I also would like to hear recommendations for which used model to look at. I am hoping to get something around $20k. I have heard nothing but good things about the engines, so I am not terribly concerned if it has 100k miles on it.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Based on your price and using Kelly Blue Book it looks like you are considering a 2014/2015 base model Suburban. Realistic gas mileage depending on whether city, highway, or some sort of combo and your driving style can be as low as 12 and as high as 23.
