My chevy cobalt won't turn over.. When I try to turn it over it simply clicks and the check engine light blinks several times. Also the another symbol appears next to 'check engine' it looks like a car with a padlock through it. (perhaps the car locked itself from starting because of an engine problem?) This is not a battary problem as i have charged the battary and the lights are all shining brigthly. I'm going to take it to the dealer but I want input from others as well.

The car lock symbol is the security symbol. I have seen a few have this glitch you may need to take it to a dealer the security system will reset after 20 mins try it again if it doesn't. It sounds like either a battery or security if you charged the battery from the wrong terminal you may have damaged something.
