chevy cobalt stereo wiring (please help)??

im putting a new stereo deck into my 2005 chevy cobalt, iv wired everything up except for theirs a couple of problems. i have constant power, but i dont have key power which means that my stereo deck isn't going to turn off when i turn off my car. iv read the instructions and it almost looks like my car doesn't even have a keypower wire to even hook up to my stereo wiring harnes. does anybody know how to figure out the proper wiring for a stereo deck in a chevey cobalt?

Look for the power antenna. I think that is your problem. That controls the power cut-on to the radio. Hook up your car's power antenna wire to the radio and i think your problem will be fixed. But it could be something different, if that doesn't work, take it to a car shop. They will only charge you about 10-20 bucks to fix it. It's not a very laborious job to fix.

All late model cars have an ignition wire for the radio. That's why you have to have the key on for the factory radio to work. If not then you would be able to operate the factory radio without a key in the ignition. On an aftermarket radio the ignition wire is red. The battery(constant 12 volts) wire is yellow. These colors usually do not correspond with a car's factory wiring harness. I assume that you didn't buy the harness that plugs into your car's factory radio harness and just cut the factory harness off. Cutting the factory harness is not necessary and never a good idea. An aftermarket harness is cheap and simplifies installation. Plus you can reverse the procedure if you need to return to a stock radio. The package that the aftermarket radio harness comes in has the color code/pin out. You may be able to find the pin out on a website or that particular car's repair manual. Good luck.
