Chevy Avalance DVD GPS player

Hi all! Just recently purchased this DVD/GPS player for my Chevy Avalanche. I can't seem to get my iPod synched to the system. I've heard it's because these dvd players are versatile with other systems and may not work with Avalanche's. Anyone else have this problem? This is my system:
