Owner of 2009 Traverse. Oil changes -- follow the users manual (using percentages), or follow the service person (every 3000 miles)?

You should change the oil every 3000-5000 miles.

However, I warn you that (the) Traverse platform (including the Acadia and Buick Enclave) are some of the most horrendous vehicles to perform a simple oil change on. The oil filter is mounted on the front of the engine, right next to the hot exhaust manifold. You cannot access this from the bottom, unless you have very small hands and/or want to burn yourself. Badly.

Basically, you have to put a separate drain pan under (the) Traverse before removing the filter, and then raise the vehicle up to drain the crankcase after replacing the filter.
