I have a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban and I just changed my oil pan and gasket because it was damaged and now the check engine oil pressure light is on but goes off when I rev the engine I changed my oil filter and oil but I still have the problem any suggestions?

1. did you install the same pan that came off the engine?
2. was the damage to the old pan near the oil pump pickup?
3. have you temporarily hooked up a oil pressure gauge to see what the actual pressure is?
4. definitely used the correct filter?

No I had to buy another oil pan because the drain hole was stripped so I went to a junk yard and got one off of a 2000 Chevy Silverado there was no damage near the pump as far i can tell and i changed the filter the pressure starts to build when I first start it up but then drops and my next step is to put oil pressure gauge on it also i brought a new pressure sensor a couple weeks ago before changing the pan

the filter is correct for a V8
the pan part number is the same for both years
i assume you used 6 quarts of oil
that leaves a bad sender or actual low oil pressure

Thank you I think even though I brought a new sending unit prior to changing the pan I'm gonna buy another to see if it will change any and the truck drives five its just the clicking when the pressure drops in idle but as you drive throughout the day the clicking stops

you didn't mention the clicking before, have that oil pressure checked with a gauge connected directly to the fitting where the sender is located before you damage the engine

Ok thank you yes when I start it up and the gauge go down that's when you here the clicking but when the gauge is up the noise go away

Fix it before you drive anymore. You risk damaging your engine! Clicking is a lack of lubrication. No lubrication = engine bearing wear.

Thanks I just got a pressure gauge I'm gonna test the pressure hopefully it's the sending unit

It's not the sending unit if the clicking comes and goes. You have a mechanical problem. Good luck! Let us know what you find.
