Can you use any brand of oil for an oil change..and what weight for a Chevy Cobalt?

I had my oil changed about 4 weeks ago and my Change Oil Soon message has already came up on it, and I'm already confused about that as it is. When i go to get my oil changed again, can I ask for any brand of oil? And does it matter what weight i use for a 2007 Chevy Cobalt?

Any quality detergent oil should be ok . I use 5-30 year round.
The change oil light can be reset and should be at every oil change.
With engine off, ignition on, press accelerator to floor 3x. This should reset the change oil light. Hope this helps.
