Popular mechanics did a test a while back that took some CUVs off road to see which ones actually worked. It was done in a sand dune park in Michigan. The Traverse excelled in the sand until the center differential got hot from engaging/disengaging and it defaulted to front wheel drive. Does anyone know of a way to electronically lock the center diff to prevent this heat build-up? I believe the Acura MDX has such a switch, providing "real" 4WD.
