Well the guys at the auto parts store think I am building a suburban. Ever since I took my suburban to the smog shop my starter has been making noise. They were checking the timing and kept clicking the starter and I think they killed it. When I start it it sounds like the starter keeps grinding for like 5 or so seconds. Today I went to start it and all I got was click click click then finally it turned over. I purchase a new started today and will have it installed tomorrow.

Are you sure it's not a weak battery or loose connection instead? I'd hate to see you buy a new starter without checking the simple things first.

Sounds like the bendix isn't engaging properly. I'm thinking a new starter too from the sound of it. You could always test it on a bench first.

We will test it tomorrow and see what's going on. The grinding for five or so seconds after it starts makes me think starter.

New starter $79.99
Labor $25.00

Not bad

Starter replaced and we are working well again!

Glad to hear you got it fixed. And not too expensive either, for a change!
