aftermarket stereo install 2002-2005 Chevy silverado?

i am trying to change a aftermarket stereo in my uncles silverado. i pulled the old one out and am trying to get the memory and power wire set up to where he has memory. the new one is a pioneer and the old one was a sony. if i hook it up according to color it doesn't turn on at all if i hook them both together it turns on with no memory. i tried taking speaker wire from a fuse to the yellow wire from the deck and it turns on but still no memory but if i plug the yellow back into the yellow and take the fuse wire and hook it into the red wire it does nothing. do i need to switch the yellow and red around. idk please help!!!!
