Hello, new user here. I guess I'll start with a short bit about myself in the event that I may be of help to someone else one day. I have had a wrench in my hand for right at 30 years. Started out working on cars and light trucks. ASE and GM certified although these certs have expired. Now working on heavy trucks and certified currently. I have two issues with my Suburban that I have been unable to isolate, and these two issues have irritated me for 3 years! 225,000 miles and in great shape although all original driveline. I'm hoping someone here has dealt with these issues! At highway speeds, transmission will hunt in and out of the "lock-up" feature of the torque converter. This only occurs while driving in the rain. Dry weather it works beautifully. Also at highway speeds regardless of the weather the engine will randomly and intermittently surge as though the key were turned off and then right back on again really fast. There is no backfire, no smoke, no loss of performance and no service engine soon light. No codes stored in the memory either. During this time, I have done the following: tune-up including fuel filter, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, ignition module, ignition coil. Fuel pump failed so it got a new one. Fuel pressure is at spec. I am stumped and so are my friends who are also many of them mechanics. I am thinking ECM? What are your thoughts?

Have you looked at the torque converter lockup connector for a bare wire or loose connection? I'm not a mechanic, but that's where I'd be looking. Of course, you being an ASE certified mechanic for 30 years, you probably know better than me. The ECM could be a logical choice, but an expensive "maybe" if it doesn't work.

have you checked TSBs?

You might also check the MAF sensor. Sometimes they can be flaky and never set a code.

Chuzz, great thought regarding the MAF. I have had a mass airflow sensor cause this driveability problem in other vehicles. I replaced this part as well, but forgot to include that in my original post.

Well, I tried to come up with a different idea. This one has pretty much got me stumped. I've got a question for you, though. I have a niece with a 95 Grand Am that won't start when it's below 45 degrees. Nothing works at all, it won't click, burp, fart or anything else when you turn the key. The lights won't come on in the dash, the headlights, radio, fan blower or anything else will operate. The whole car is just dead. After the day warms up, put the key in, turn it and it fires right up. She's had the battery and charging system checked at Autozone and all is well there. Could this be an ignition switch problem? I live 100 miles away and am on a fixed income, so can't really drive there and check it out. That and I'm not a mechanic.

Have the Same 1999 K1500 5.7 l The Driver door sags about 1/2" and rattles. Hinges have excessive play and has two new pins with bushings. Now ready to replace the hinges but wish to obtain some expert guidance. I think original GM design is defective. Some have suggest ed better custom pins and bushing but cannot find them on line. Napa sold me two bolt on kits, Upper and Lower Left. I am on with Just Answers for last three days . No answers yet! Not even a valid suggestio

assume you mean NAPA NOE 6755212 and NOE 6755213, so if you have new hinges that you have not installed yet, what is your question?
