I will be replacing my fuel pump on a 99 Chevy Suburban in the next few days, my plan is to cut an access hole in the floor and make a hatch cover for it.... My question is this, other than cutting the carpet, what is the proper method of pulling it in order to get it out of the way??? Or if I do cut it, what is involved with replacing it?? Normally I would go to a wrecking yard and experiment a bit but I dont have much free time in my schedule over the next couple of weeks...

Seems like an awkward way to do this job. Cutting carpet and sheet metal. Making a new hatch....How big a hole will you make to be sure you have it in the right place to gain access? How can you be sure you won't damage the tank or lines with your saw? Just seems easier and safer to do it the right way.

Try this video. It may help.

I agree, this "repair" seems really ghetto. I usually prefer not to break two things in order to fix one. Did see you find "cut the floor & carpet" option in a Tijuana auto repair manual.
