My 99 buban's ac is leaking from the high side schrader valve. Can I replace just the schrader valve, or does the whole fitting with both th low and high sides have to be replaced?

doesnt the valve core unscrew and you just replace it? Then you have to evacuate and recharge it.

I have heard that on some Chevys the high side valve core can't be replaced. If it can be, there is a tool which will keep the pressure in while you change the core allowing you to avoid having to vacuum out the system and completely refill it. I just didn't want to pony up the $60 on this tool only to find my suburban was one of those Chevys where the high side core doesn't come out...

My valve is different. It is a shrader type but the outside is hexagonal to accept a wrench. I'm hoping just to replace the core as I don't want to buy a vacuum pump... I may just take a gamble on the core removal tool in a few days here anyway...

You know you can borrow a pump from the major parts stores if you need to right?

Zora, thanks for the link. That is exactly what I needed. I didn't know they rent vacuum pumps at most parts stores. I will check mine and see if they have one.
