The patient: a 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500 4X4, nice clean rust-free Arizona truck. The transmission (4L60E) lost fluid, dropped out of drive, and the engine redlined, and spun a rod bearing.
The donor: 1998 GMC 2500 extended cab 4X4 pickup, 350 Vortec with 4L80E transmission. A roll-over, but ran. I drove it about 3 miles, and it ran fine, and transmission shifted as it should.
Donor truck is disassembled; tranny is on a cart, engine hanging from hoist. I know the 4L80E transmission will physically fit in the 'burb chassis, since they used them in 3/4 ton 'burbs.
1. Will I have to change the tranny wire harness? Engine ECM? Drive shafts, almost certainly.
2. Can I use an oil cooler delete kit in a 4X4 chassis? Is there room for a shorty filter to hang down in the normal way?
3. Will probably want to eliminate the cats as well. I live in Alberta, with no mandatory emissions testing.
One way or another, I will get this accomplished, but any tips or warnings about pitfalls will be gratefully appreciated.
