I am currently working on a 1998 Suburban, 5.7/4WD. The flex plate needs replaced due to damaged and missing ring gear teeth. I am wanting to leave the transfer case and transmission together and just slide them back on jacks just enough to have access to the flex plate bolts. I'm in the process of trying to get the trans to pull back off the engine. The dowel/guide pins are the only thing holding me up I believe. I have had guide pins be pretty secured in bell housings before on other transmissions upon removal. I have left all the wiring and the shift cable attached to the trans in hopes that these will have enough slack to just slide back the few inches the trans will be. Has anyone ever attempted this method and had success(leaving the above items still connected/attached)? Thanks
