98 chevy malibu won't start?

Parked for a sec and when i came back out, car wont start. This is what i know. I opened up the air intake and sprayed in starter fluid, car fired right up then quickly died. this leads me to believe it is a fuel issue. I changed the fuel filter, and made sure the fuel pump was working. And help would be great.

Solenoid and/or alternator. Find the screw to jump the solenoid and stick a screwdriver in there...make sure the car is in park. My last car had a broken frame on the alternator. Left me broken down in a really bad area st 4 a.m. and a cop helped me. Had a great, honest mechanic who fixed it for 40 bucks.
