I have a 1986 Chevrolet Suburban (k20) at at time it dies at a 1/4 tank of gas like as if it was out of gas and at time it keeps running the only way to get it to start again is by adding no less then 5gal of gas i was wondering if anyone knows why i had ppl tell me it was the vacuum lines other say fuel pump ect it does have a quadrajet carb and a smog pump not cat(s) and duel ex all the way tho any ideas or info on this may/will help tons thank you
@Dennis
nope dropped the tank when it said 1/4 and it was at more or less a 1/4 tank
@dscorsica
i will check your first part and no it has a single tank
@Mark
done it that was my first guess
@Monkeyboy
yes the tank is accurate and no it has fuel as stated above and i was thinking the sending unit and the shop said its fine and he has seen it b4 but does not know what it is he was the one who told me he thinks the truck is some how flooding the vacuum line due to there was small amounts of gas in the vacuum fuel fumes container and when it does it floods and dies

If it was mine I would drop the fuel tank and empty it, I bet after 25 years there is a lot of water and dirt in there. It may be that the fuel sending unit or gauge is a little off, but my bet is on the first.
