So my 78 nova tail light is on and won't stay off .I adjusted the ebrake checked the brake switch on the brake and the brake reservoir has fluid in it. What am I missing. When the car is off the brake is spongy but after a couple pushes it get stiff when the car is on it gets spongy again. 78 nova base power brakes

have you checked each caliper and wheel cylinder and rubber hose for a leak? was the fluid level low in either half of the reservoir? did you try bleeding the brakes?

thats my next think is to bleed the brakes and i didnt see and see any leaks. it was low on the end that was closest to the front of the car i believe i filled it back up before i say you replied to this thread

How did you check your brake light switch? I'm not sure on your car, but some of them used to be adjustable. Lock nut on both the front and back side of the hole where it goes through the pedal. Is is just one light or both? If it's just one light, then I doubt it's the switch. My guess would be the contact plate in the bottom of the socket. If it's both lights, then the switch is the most likely culprit.

If you unplug the switch does the brake light go out?
