I'm on Chevy's website building a Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, and I'm confused about what these gear ratios mean to a layman such as myself. I have selected the 5.3L V8 w/6-speed automatic transmission, and I can choose between the 3.08 or 3.42 gear ratios.
I drive on pavement 95% of the time, and I only take the boat out twice a month tops (about a five mile trip from the house). I am looking for acceleration more than top speed. What can I expect as far as acceleration, top speed, gas mileage, etc. from each of these two gear ratios?
