2009 chevy cobalt Ignition issue?

I have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt 5speed Manual. This morning the key got stuck in the ignition. The ignition is stuck in the Acc - On, position. It will not turn off. Neither will the car obviously so I had to pull the battery cables. I've read a few things about this and it seems it's probably an issue with the shifter, and not what I originally had thought, which was it just needed a new ignition. So before I go ripping shit apart, Am I correct in this assumption, and is there a recall for this problem?
