2005 Chevy Malibu A/C Problem?

I'm having some problems with the a/c in my 2005 chevy malibu (just over 90,000 miles). The a/c is turning itself on and off. The indicator light on the console turns on and off and I can here the compressor doing the same. I can usually turn it back on by pressing the a/c button but sometimes it resists the effort. I've notice that sometimes I can get it to come back on by increasing the fan speed.

Anyone have an idea what may be causing the problem?

when your A/C system is low on freon it will activate the low pressure switch and cut the A/C compressor off, all you need to do is add some freon. sounds like you might have a small leak which if you head to pep boys, they have a can of freon that has a sealer in it for small leaks
