2004 chevrolet silverado 4x4 transfer case damaged?

the transfer case is damaged and it switches to neutral on its own how can it be fixed? and why does this occur?

Is it an electronic shift, or manual shift with shifter on floor? If it is electrical it may be a bad switch causing it to drop in neutral. If it is mechanical it might be a bad transfer case shift fork. Get it checkd out to make sure as transfer cases are expensive to repair.
