2003 Chevy malibu about 155,000 miles, we keep it well oiled and maintained. The other day everything lit up when you tried to start it and it would keep turning but it wouldn't actually start until you tap the gas pedal. We're planning on getting it fixed tomorrow but the guy wasn't really helpful telling us it would be anywhere from 100 bucks to 1000 bucks. What are some possible problems and about how much should they cost to fix. We're just trying to budget here and get a better idea than " it could be anything and could cost up to 1000 bucks"

Thanks so much for your help!!

Possibly your throttle position sensor or fuel pump. Try priming the fuel pump by turning the key to the on position (dont start it) let it set for 3 seconds, turn off repeat 2 more times then try to start it. If it starts up fine more than likely its your fuel pump.
