I have a 2002 Suburban with 123,000 miles on it. I do my oil changes every 3,000 miles. I'm cinsidering changing over to synthetic oil? I was wondering how many of you out there have done this and what your experience was. Did you get better gas milage? Did you have issues with oil leaks. Thanks in advance.

For one, you are changing your oil too often and wasting your money. 3K was typical when oil grades were not as good and engines burned dirtier. Common practice today is 6mos or 6000 miles, some even higher. If you maintain the same interval with more expensive syn oil you'll be further behind than you are now. Mileage increases with syn are negligible, I've tried them. Never experienced any leaks because of them.

Thanks for the reply. I like to change it at 3,000 because I tow a camper and like to play it safe. It's so easy to do on the suburban, dont even need a jack. Thanks again.

That's true it's easy to do. I just gasp every time I see the price of a qt of oil.
I think you are fine with the dino oil. I use the high mileage kind now. It's supposed to be better for the seals and gaskets.
