I have a 2002 Suburban that the AC went out on in 2011 right when we were heading out of town for a family vacation. I live in Arizona so it made the drive out of state and the drive back terrible. I had it fixed at Brake Masters when we got back. It was like $1400 to fix everything. I can't remember all what they did but I think they changed the compressor and the blower.
It worked fine the rest of 2011. In 2012 I started having issues with it now and then. It wouldn't blow cold air unless I turned on the AC for the 2nd row. That was intermittent. Then in 2013 that became in the norm, and I checking under the hood for some other reason and noticed cold air coming from one of the lines into the engine compartment. So I took it back to Brake Masters to have them look at it. They said that wouldn't of been caused by anything they did, but to find out about fixing it I would have to pay to have it looked at. I skipped it. I don't know if it did it before they messed with it, but I doubt it. I bought the Suburban new. Now the AC doesn't work at all and Im trying to decided if I want to put more money into it, or buy something new. It only has 138,000 miles on it.
I have tax money coming so I'm going to at least have the AC checked out and see if it's going to be another $1400 or something more reasonable. if I remember correct, the cold air was leaking from where it right line that's leading into the cab like right above the accumulator. Anyone have that happen before? I would keep the Suburban if the AC doesn't cost too much to fix. If it's over $1000 I'll look for something else, maybe just drive this in the winter.
It's got a few other issues but it runs fine. I had a window regulator go out and I replaced it, then it broke again, along with 2 other regulators. The only window I can use is the driver side, which I can live with cause it was the only window I rolled down anyway. The EBCM board probably needs the solder fix, ABS lights come on after like 5 minutes. Needs an alignment, and maybe the fluids flushed, and new spark plugs. All that stuff isn't too bad, if the AC is reasonable.
