My 2001 chevy malibu seems to be leaking anti-freeze, thus creating it to over heat. Not to mention one of the fans that is suppose to help cool off the engine is not working. When one of my friends looked at it, he said the leak may be coming from the head gasket. Is this possible? And if so how much would replacing a head gasket cost? Also any suggestions on how to get that fan working again?

sounds like you need to visit a mechanic. A friend said and said that, may wind up costing more than you can stand. A head removal and etc is over $1000. A hard job for a mechanic.

The fan maybe a faulty thermostat. Or it maybe the fan itself. Try connecting the non working fan to the other one and see if it works.

The heads have channels running around them which contain water for cooling. So when your gasket goes, they leak water. But a tell tale sign is white smoke coming from the exhaust, which is caused by water entering the combustion chamber and turning to steam.

Replacing a head gasket could be around $1000
