Just bought a 2000 suburban. Needs new wheel bearing front driver side. I was watching youtube videos on replacing this assembly. One was from Timken. the part I am going to use. No one put any wheel bearing lube (black high temp grease) on the new hub assembly. Is this step taken for granted or not required anymore? Back "in the day" this was a critical step.

Thanks

It's taken for granted. You'd better pack a wheel bearing anytime you replace them, unless it's a sealed bearing like on a lot of FWD vehicles. If you don't grease it, you won't get very far before it seizes and then you're in for a real treat!

FYI 2000 Suburban owners.

I was informed by Timken that the replacement axle/wheel bearing assembly for the front wheels of a 2000 4x4 Suburban is a sealed unit and needs no pre-lube prior to installation.

That's true, man. As long as it's a sealed bearing, it's just replace and go. Have you purchased it yet? If not, it'll be obvious to you when you do.
