2000 chevy silverado service engine sooon light...?

alright the light has been on for nearly a year and this weekend i changed the spark plugs and wires, distributer cap and routery button because of a miss-fire.. a screw broke off the distributer cap so i cut it flush and duct taped the distributer cap down""if u cant duct it **** it"" lol anyway truck runs like new! but the service engine soon light keeps going on and off periodically. like one minute its off then 30 mins later it comes back on. is this because of the duct taped distributer or could it be something else? i really want it to stay off because i can darken everything but that stupid light. please help me out..
im in Tennessee so duct tapes was a good recource.

i like duct tape also here in ky, but is your vehicle fixing to come upon a large mile marker like 100,000 miles, i mean on the odometer, because my light came on and then i smelled what seemed to be plastic, and it was a way to tell me to take it to the shop, but when my light came on it would flash 5 times 3 short pause then 2, called a friend and he looked it up in the Chelton manual and it was telling me that it had changed miles which alerted a circuit, burnt it and remined me to take it to shop. But my other car would do like yours is. On for awhile then off, could be something as simple as a radiator cap to a vaccuum, or yes the duct tape, i would get it in before the first of the year because Advace does not like to put the computer on it if its over 10 yrs.Hopefully it just needs reseting.
