Got in the Suburban this morning with the family, drove to church (only about half mile) got out of church and it won't start. It fires up, then dies after a second or two. Any help would be appreciated

UPDATE... went back 3 hours later, and it started right up. It did this same thing a few weeks ago. Help :)

Sounds fuel related. Could be the FPR. Can you borrow a fuel pressure tester from your part store? Any codes?

Check engine light comes on every now and then, but it's generally off, and off right now. Yesterday it was driven 300 miles with no problems. I'll check on the fuel pressure tester tomorrow.

Regulator. It sits on the fuel rail.. If the CEL has come on, you probably have some error codes. Post them and we can see what's going on. Don't start throwing parts at it.

So, I am fairly new to GM vehicles, is there an easy way to see what codes it has? For example with my old Honda civic I can jumper the computer and it makes the CEL blink, count the blinks, get the code. Or do I need to take it to a shop to hook it up?

Not only Autozone, but Advance and O'Reillys too!

You can buy them pretty reasonably. Mine was stolen when someone broke into my garage:mad:
I haven't replaced it yet. I could read OBD I and II with it. My cars are typically too old for warranties so I need the extra help.

You can get a low-end scanner for $25 on ebay -

Ok, so Napa is my closest auto parts store, they plugged it in for me, code P0131. Thanks everyone for the help

That's an O2 sensor fault. It's a problem, probably throwing the CEL, but not your hard start problem. I'm still thinking it's fuel issue

well I'll get into the O2 sensor soon, but for now, what do you think i should do? Fuel pressure regulator?

You should do a fuel pressure test to determine if you have a pressure related problem.

Yep. The FPR is just a guess. Borrow a tester and check the pressure first. One way to see if an FPR is bad is to pull the vacuum line off of it. If fuel leaks out, it's bad. It's not the only symptom, but it's the most obvious. You could have a bad fuel pump or filter. A test should narrow it down.

There is less than 10k miles on both fuel pump and fuel filter.

and new parts never fail? just do a test before you replace anything more in the fuel system

You drove 300 miles in a vehicle that gives you problems like not starting?

correct. it's done this twice now in about a month.
