1999 Chevy Malibu stalls, lights go on and the steering gets tight....whats up?

recently discovered this issue. bought the car recently from a former high school classmate. i am thinking it could be the fuel filter, fuel pump, need for a tune up (spark plugs), or possibly ignition switch. Car has 105k miles.
