1999-2002 Chevy Silverado 5.3 V8 engine noise?

Is it true the GM 5.3 V8 has piston slap noise? I have read lot of owner complaints of the above year vehicles stating very loud engine noise and some of them spent lot of money to redo their engines. How many of you out there have this problems?

I am thinking of buying '00 Chevy 1500 with 5.3 V8 but worried after seen lot of complaints about engine issues as well as fuel issues such gauge and fuel pump problems occuring within 1 year and less than 15,000 miles. Any comments!!!
I have read this not only occuring during cold startup. Most owners says when engine is warm, and idling, the noise is there.

If it is not making the noise when you start it cold and go for a test drive, then it should be ok. Then don't make a habit of driving with less than a quarter tank of fuel and your pump should be ok, too.
