1997 chevy silverado speedometer is stuck at 100 mph.?

I have a 1997 chevy silverado with a 5.7 ltr.v-8. I had to change out the battery. The truck starts fine now. However,now I notice that my speedometer is pegged out at 100 mph. I hope that someone can tell me what happened and how I can fix it.

So you think that changing out the battery caused your speedo to jump and get stuck?
Reminds me of a 96 Thunderbird I had where the tach would occasionally jump over and get stuck, I could get it back by reving the motor usually.
As for your problem I'd say get it on the highway and see if it comes back. If not try the battery cables again.
