I have 1997 chevy silverado 5.7l vortec and the truck is stuck in park. It will go into gear when i disconnect the battery. What could it be? I got the truck to drive when i disconnected the battery then started it in neutral but once i put in park it got stuck again.

Do your brake lights work? As said above, when you press the brake pedal, it activates a solenoid that allows you to shift out of Park. I would bet that the brake pedal switch is bad (and your brake lights don't work), or you blew the fuse and your brake lights don't work.

The shift interlock release switch located on brake pedal arm with brake light switch. When you press brake it energizes solenoid and enable you to shift out of park. When u disconnect batty it goes into a default mode and releases. repl interlock solnoid
